The Commission will prepare and approve a comprehensive master plan for the orderly development and management of all property within the District. In December of 2014, the Hospital announced a 3-Year Strategic Plan, which the Commission will use to develop the Master Development Plan. The Master Development Plan will evaluate the need for new clinics, hospital specialty centers, research facilities, as well as housing and business services throughout the area.
The Center for Breathing Easy and a new parking garage are slated to be the first development project. The Commission is also considering the development of a data center to serve the Hospital’s information technology needs, as well as healthcare providers across the South Side of Chicago.
The Master Develpment Plan will also review the need for Vertan’s Housing with complimenting Veteran’s Health Clinic , as well as Workforce Housing for employees or hte HOspital and affilliated agencies. The District will aslo work with the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Chicago, Borthwestern niversity and other medical and educational institutions to create a comprehensive Master Development Plan that reviews the healthcare needs of the souther region of Chicago, including the need for a new trauma center.
